With the goal of welcoming and walking with an Afghan evacuee family in Oswego, the OWNA Sponsor Circle is embarking on its first fundraising journey. The all-volunteer community circle is looking to fundraise approximately $12,000 to help a family of five to become established members of the Oswego community. “Sponsor a Mile” bike ride- This event will not require you to ride a bike for miles. Rather, you can sponsor Andy Hinman as he cycles over 200 miles from his home to Silver Bay, NY. You can sponsor Andy by the mile or make a lump sum donation to his ride. Andy will begin his journey on Thursday, June 9th. Your donations will help motivate him as he passes along the historic Erie Canal and through the Adirondack Mountains. The online donation platform Zeffy has been chosen to support OWNA Sponsor Circle’s first fundraising event. Donations can be made at: www.zeffy.com/en/fundraising/cf27b79c-758e-4a4c-9865-656d726da3e5. This link is also posted on the “OWNA Sponsor Circle – Oswego NY” Facebook page. By sponsoring Andy and supporting the efforts of the OWNA Sponsor Circle team, you will help bring new hope to our Afghan allies and their families currently being housed at US military bases. Together, we can build new hope with new neighbors. In the event that all of our Afghan allies have been resettled by the time OWNA Sponsor Circle submits its finalized application to the State Department Sponsor Circle Program the OWNA Sponsor Circle will work to resettle other forcibly displaced families (other refugee populations) to Oswego.
