The New York School of Ministry Celebrates its Creation!
Monday, April 14, 2014
On April 5, at Stella Maris Retreat Center, the New York School of Ministry honored Rev. J. Mark Lawson for his work in creating NYSOM in 2004. Participants had gathered in Skaneateles for “Encountering World Religions,” led by Rev. Jonathan Lawrence, and the event concluded with a service of celebration. Becky West and Craig Wilson, both students in the Word & Sacrament Program, and Rev Brenda McCutcheon, who graduated from that program last year, spoke of the profound impact that their experience with the New York School of Ministry had made upon their lives. Others’ words and photos were gathered in a book presented to Mark Lawson. Marjorie Purnine, Associate Conference Minister for Leadership Development, expressed her deep thanks for the effort and energy that Mark Lawson put into building a firm foundation for the New York School of Ministry. The School offers various learning opportunities for lay people and authorized ministers as well as certificate programs for those who wish to prepare for supply preaching or authorized ministry.
