NY Conference Hispanic Summit
Wednesday, March 9, 2016
On March 11th leaders from various Hispanic congregations around New York City will gather at Bronx Evangelical Spanish United Church of Christ. This will be the first “summit” or “encuentro” of religious hispanic leaders with New York United Church of Christ Conference Minister, Rev. David Gaewski, to discuss hopes and dreams for intentional growth of the United Church of Christ Hispanic community. There are many expressions of vibrant ministries currently taking place among UCC Hispanic congregations, however, not all are aware of what each community is doing. This will be an opportunity to inform one another of activities in the various churches.
Recently the Council for Hispanic Ministries of the New England Region of the United Church of Christ reached out to the leadership of Bronx Evangelical Spanish UCC to inquire as to whether New York Hispanic congregations might be interested in becoming a member of the New England network. United Church of Christ General Minister and President John Dorhauer was present at that meeting. Dorhauer praised the work currently being done among the Hispanic Congregations and expressed the hope of the United Church of Christ to emphasize and grow our Hispanic ministries. Gaewski will facilitate the conversation among the New York City Hispanic ministries on how we might more intentionally grow our network for UCC Hispanic congregations.
