Statement for Peace
The New York Conference, United Church of Christ and the Regional Synod of New York, Reformed Church in America are committed to a Gospel of love, human dignity, and active care for all of God's people and creation. This includes our brothers and sisters of the all faiths.
We believe that all people are created in the image of God- not just those who are like us. We deplore the animosity and hateful rhetoric that has recently erupted and has been directed against all Muslims. We decry all violent actions whether they are perpetrated by Muslim, Christian, or any extremist group. This is the time for faithful Christians and Muslims to join hands and work together for peace, civility, and mutual affirmation.
For this reason we encourage our churches and church members to reach out to local mosques to express our solidarity and our hope for cooperative activities that benefit our communities and witness to our respective faiths in a peace-loving God.
