Rev. Philip A. Smith
The New York Conference, UCC sends our condolences to Mrs. Lynn Seelbach, upon the death of her beloved husband Rev. Philip A. Smith.
The Rev. Philip A. Smith graduated Chicago Theological Seminary 1964 ; ordained 1964 Calvary UCC, Buffalo; called to St. Peters' UCC 1967; merged St. Peters, Salem and Lloyds Memorial UCC churches on east side of Buffalo, 1973 to form New Covenant UCC; called to Pilgrim-St Luke's UCC 1976; called to Lakewood UCC, St. Petersburg, FL. 1988; called to Christian Temple Christian Church, Wellsville, New York, 1991; called to St. Johns UCC Dunkirk, NY, 1994; called to St. Johns UCC, Eden, NY, 1996 where he retired in 2001.
Rev. Smith was a long time community and peace advocate. As a long term board member of the WNY Peace Center he worked tirelessly to make the peaceable Kin-Dom of God present here on earth. He founded the Peace of Peace at Pilgrim-St. Luke's & El Nuevo Camino UCC. He challenged the church to be "peace makers" rather than "peace talkers". His significant energy, commitment to the common good and solidarity with our global brothers and sisters became part of the DNA of the church.
Friends may call Saturday, January 9th from 4:00pm-7:00pm at the Dengler, Roberts, Perna Funeral Home: 3070 Delaware Ave. Kenmore, NY.
Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service, Sunday January 10th at 2:00pm at the Pilgrim-St Luke's UCC, 335 Richmond Ave., Buffalo.
Flowers gratefully declined. Memorials may be made to Pilgrim-St Luke UCC.
