Commission on the Global Church
For several years, the Commission on the Global Church of the New York Conference has been annually acknowledging churches for their commitment to global ministries with the David G. Southard, Sr. Award for Excellence in Global Mission Work.
This award is given to a church which has provided exceptional service to global ministry. David Southard, Sr. had been a loyal and well-respected member of the Commission for many years to the time of his passing six years ago. He was deeply committed to the support of the world-wide church and to the many and varied cultures within.
This award was created in Dave’s honor to acknowledge and inspire churches within the New York Conference in the general arena of global ministry.
The time has come once again for the Commission to choose a church as the recipient of this award which will be presented during our New York Conference Annual Meeting on June 10 - 12 in Rochester, NY.
As criteria in the selection process, the Commission has established the following guidelines (listed in random order):
- Long-term commitment to global mission
- Official designation as a ‘global mission church’ (not mandatory)
- Description of participation in (a) specific global project(s)
- Active involvement in New York Conference global mission activities
- Hosted and/or actively communicated with missionaries
- Contributed to/enhanced global advocacy and education awareness
Our selection process is rather informal. There is no official ‘application form.’ If your church is interested in becoming a candidate for the Southard Award, please send a short narrative and/or list describing your church’s global mission activities by March 31, 2016 via e-mail to: email@example.com
Thank you for your interest. The Commission is looking forward to receiving your response.
